We're almost there... The spring and summer months bring an increase in outdoor activities and a greater chance of damaging your precious mouth and pearly whites. If you play sports, it's important that you consult Dr. Katz for special precautions. A protective mouth guard is advised for playing contact sports such as basketball, football and soccer. In case of any accident involving the face, check your mouth and the appliances immediately. If teeth are loosened or the appliances damaged, please schedule an appointment with our office. In the meantime, treat your discomfort as you would treat any general soreness.Only by using a mouth guard and other forms of facial protection can kids with and without braces avoid serious sports injuries. At Dr. Katz's office, we actually prefer a larger stock variety of mouth guards that will still fit even though your teeth are moving. We sell some in the office or you can go to any sporting goods store to purchase a stock mouth guard. Beware of a custom fit type, which will stop your teeth from moving as these are counterproductive to orthodontic work.Give us a call if you have any questions about mouth guards or your treatment at the office of Wendy J. Katz, DDS.
